Island Sports Center - RMU Men's D3 and D4 hockey teams competed at home over the weekend 11/8/2024 - 11/10/2024.
On Friday, 11/8/2024, an intense Division 3 hockey showdown took place. The Robert Morris Colonials claimed a 5-3 victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes.
The Colonials set the tone in the first period, #3 Justin Newton strikes first for the Colonials with assists from #2 Joey Laquatra and #24 Gavin Crivelli. The Golden Flashes peppered RMU with 20 shots to 7 as RMU held onto a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Kent State came alive in the second period taking a 2-1 lead with back-to-back goals, but RMU answered with #14 Ethan Bendekovic scoring a shorthanded goal assisted by #23 Adam Sciorilli. Moments later, Bendekovic added another goal with assists from #21 Zachary Blevins and #17 John Betz. Both teams followed with powerplay goals ending the period 4-3. An RMU goal was scored by #10 Alex Cassivi assisted by Bendekovic and Blevins. (Shots on Goal: KSU 13, RMU 11).
Kent State attacked desperately in the final period, but RMU's defense held strong. With a minute left, #21 Zachary Blevins secured the win with an empty-net goal assisted by Bendekovic. Despite being outshot 51-26, the Colonials determination showed through securing a 5-3 victory.
RMU Island Sports Center - November 9th, 2024
The Robert Morris University Colonials took a 4-2 win over the Carnegie Mellon Tartans in an intense D4 CHE matchup on Saturday night. With teamwork and standout goaltending from #33 Brock Mroczka, who made 48 saves, RMU took the victory.
Going into the first period, #12 Nathaniel Barr opened the scoring for the Colonials with 7:50 left, assisted by #8 John Wayne Kravitz. CMU quickly responded to tie the game, but RMU's #20 Nicholas Miles put the Colonials back into the lead with 2:45 remaining. RMU outshot CMU 20-17 in the period.
CMU scored early into the second, making the game 2-2. However, #23 Billy Shaver fired back with a snipe to the right side of the net, and #27 Carter Bossong put the Colonials into the lead to 4-2.
The final period was an intense back-and-forth action, but neither team managed to score. The Colonials played strong and came out with the 4-2 win. Shots on goal 50-48 CMU. The Colonial's resilience and shooting earned them a well-deserved win as they continue through their season.
