RMU D3 Falls to IUP After Strong Opening Frame at Clearview
November 21st, 2025, Clearview Arena, Moon Twp, PA- The Robert Morris University Men's D3 hockey team opened the night with strong energy and a tight first period, but the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) Crimson Hawks pushed hard in the second, handing RMU a 4–1 loss on Friday night. Colonials battle early but can't maintain through the Crimson Hawks run in the second period.
The Colonials struck quickly after IUP's early breakthrough. After the Crimson Hawks opened scoring at 11:37 of the first period, RMU responded just 35 seconds later.
#25 Daniel Killen buried his first goal of the season on the power play at 11:02, firing home a pass from
#24 Ryan Riffner to tie the game at 1–1. The goal shifted momentum in RMU's favor for much of the period, with the Colonials generating sustained pressure and winning puck battles along the boards. However, the second period proved decisive. IUP regained the lead at 8:14 of the middle frame, capitalizing on a defensive breakdown to make it 2–1. The Crimson Hawks struck again less than a minute later, extending their advantage to 3–1 at 7:38. Despite several strong shifts and zone entries of their own, the Colonials couldn't find the equalizer. Late in the period, IUP converted on a power play at 1:22, stretching the lead to 4–1. The third period showed improved defensive structure from RMU and several scoring chances, but the Crimson Hawks' second-period rush ultimately made the difference. Though the result wasn't what the Colonials hoped for, Killen's first of the season and the team's resilient opening period highlight positives to build on as RMU moves deeper into the season.
