The Men's Division 3 Club Hockey Team faced many challenges from the get-go this season including a brand new roster that featured 14 new players.
The Colonials started on the road facing the Flint-Michigan squad where they fell in both contests to begin the season. After some canceled games, RMU faced off against Cal U in their charity night losing a tight battle 4-3 to open conference play. RMU returned home to battle the reigning College Hockey East champion Saint Vincent Bearcats for what was then the game of the year. Both teams traded leads that eventually pushed the game to a shootout where Adam Sciorilli would win it and upset the champions. Gunnar Fulton stopped 47/51 shots. The Colonials took care of business with a win over Duquesne then followed by another close loss to Cal U on home ice.
Case Western was next on the schedule and they had the honor of taking the ice at Rocket Mortgage Center, home of the Cleveland Monsters and Cleveland Cavaliers. RMU would win that one 10-4 with a stellar performance by Luke Zukowski stopping 28/32 and a hattrick by Joey LaQuatra. Back to the Island, the Colonials took care of then-ranked Kent State followed by a double-digit domination over Akron. RMU would lose the next two contests before closing the calendar year with a massive 3-2 win over UPJ. 2025 saw RMU open with an 8-2 win over Akron before losing a close contest to IUP at home the following week. The rest of the season showed just how strong the Colonials could be winning 4 of their last 5 games to close the season including a 4 goal effort by Zachary Blevins versus Case Western and Jeremiah Brosovic's first career shutout at Kent State.
RMU would finish at the #4 seed of the College Hockey East standings and square off against the Kent State Golden Flashes. RMU opened the scoring early thanks to a goal from Alex Cassivi. Kent State would battle to get one back in the early second period to even the scoring. Kent State continued to push the pace but could not break netminder Brosovic. The game would be pushed to overtime and still remained scoreless with neither team giving the other a chance. It went to a 4v4 2nd overtime and still neither team could close the gap. Finally, in a 3v3 3rd overtime a 3 on 1 developed between John Betz, Blevins, and Daniel Killen. A beautiful passing play between the trio gave Blevins a wide-open net to send RMU to the semifinals for the second straight season. Brosovic's final game in net saw him play his best yet, stopping 55/56 shots and being the backbone to send his team on in the playoffs.
RMU's next challenge would be the reigning champs in Saint Vincent. St. Vincent took advantage of a tired Colonials squad and would win this one 6-2.
The Colonials will return most of their roster as they look for their first championship since 2000. Jack Jones, John Betz, Jacob "Gunnar" Fulton, Jeremiah Brosovic, Daniel Killen, and Justin Newton will all graduate this spring and leave behind an amazing legacy to this program helping them get back to the postseason.
