Club Golf Podiums in Final Regional Tournament

Colonials finish 3rd in a tough field to round out the Spring Regular Season, have received a bid to the National Invitational

Freeport, PA- The Men's Club Golf team picked up a podium during their final regional tournament of the spring season at the Birdsfoot Golf Club during the second weekend of April. The Colonials had two teams enter in the 10 team field that saw some familiar faces and new foes. The Colonial's primary squad finished 3rd place out of the 10 and the B squad finished 6th, and 1st out of the 2 B squads. RMU also had some individuals compete as part of a C squad, but no team score was registered for them.

RMU finished the tournament with a total score of 836 over the two day tournament, +116 over par as a team. They trailed Penn State and West Virginia by 15 strokes, as both teams finished with an 821. The B squad finished with a 900, +180 over par but 49 strokes ahead of WVU's B squad.

Individually, Ryan Dembiczak was the top Colonial over the weekend. His 157 was only +13 over par and he finished 3rd overall. The weekend also saw strong performances from Aaron Fetzner and Steven Ross, as they both finished tied for 9th with a 162, +18 over par. The full individual rankings can be found below.

When asked his thoughts on the event and the season, head coach Chuck Kuzniewski said:

"I could not be prouder of our team this season. After finishing 1st, 1st and 3rd in regional tournaments this semester, our top 8 players represented RMU valiantly in Arkansas. After the first round we were in 2nd place and only 6 strokes off the lead. We headed into round two having never played the course and without local knowledge. And while we ended up finishing up 3rd overall, it was a huge moral victory since missing a Nationals bid last semester. Despite how we finished, we were the first team to arrive and the last team to leave both days! So, although we took home a 3rd place trophy, I can assure you, this talented group of student-athletes were the #1 'team' in the event. The entire RMU community should celebrate with these men for never giving up and grinding out through every hole."
