RMU Club Golf took the course this past weekend for the first time in NCCGA play for the Atlantic Regional Tournament #1 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Club in Gibsonia, PA . The Colonials, who represented the Atlantic Region last fall in the National Invitational Tournament, and in the spring for the National Championships, went into the season eyeing local rival Pitt as their fiercest competition for the regional crown. In the first of three fall regional tournament, the Panthers' A team edged out the Colonials for the top score with a two round team total of 758. The RMU A team had a seven stroke lead after day one, shooting a team round of 381. The Panthers were able to roar back on Sunday with a tournament best team round of 370 to best the RMU round of 386 and team total of 767. RMU senior team captain Tanner Kutek fired a -1 Sunday round of 71 and finished the tournament with the second best individual score of all competitors with a two round total of 146 strokes (+2). Damian Fubio shot an even par on Sunday (72) and finished third overall for the tournament at three over par for the weekend.

The Colonials had three full squads consisting of 20 golfers that participated in the regional tournament. The B team took fourth place overall with a two round team score of 810. The B team, led by Steven Ross's two round score of 159 (+15), placed better than the top teams from West Virginia University, Akron University, Cleveland State University, Kent State University, and Slippery Rock University. Overall the full squad had a strong performance as the top team looks to regain a foothold on first place in the region in the second regional tournament this upcoming weekend at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Brecksville, OH.
