Colonials Secure a Final Four Spot at Nationals

RMU Roller Hockey Comes Out on Top in Elimination Games

Elimination games begin as the Robert Morris Colonials (3-1) take on the Neumann Knights (1-2).

RMU came out guns a-blazin' with five goals in the first period. Jeremiah Brosovic got things going and Tanner Foley followed suit shortly after. Matt Purdue netted home another snipe from the left circle shortly followed by a Jarrett Tomazich power play goal. Tanner Foley finished the first period with a goal with just 20 seconds left.

Penalties were the name of the game in period 2 with RMU taking three and Neumann two. Giovanni Palombo would net home a power play goal midway through the period to expand RMU's lead to six. Neumann would finally sneak one through on the power play but was quickly followed by Tanner Foley's hat trick goal.

Neumann would tally two goals early in period 3 including a power play goal to cut the lead to 7-3. Tomazich would collect his second goal of the game shortly after but Neumann wouldn't go away quietly. They'd sneak one more in behind the Colonials. Tanner Foley collected his fourth goal of the afternoon on an empty net and RMU would defeat Neumann 9-4 to advance to the Elite Eight.

The Colonials advanced to take on #1 ranked and ECRHA champions Slippery Rock Friday at 9:45 P.M.

The battle for a spot in the Final Four commenced between the Slippery Rock Lions (3-0) and the RMU Colonials (4-1).

A back-and-forth affair against the cross-town rivals went down to the very end. Period 1 was all Slippery Rock firing shots away but Goalie Ben Korol stood to the task and kept the Colonials in a 0-0 affair to end period one. Both teams had powerplay chances but neither converted.

Slippery Rock continued their offensive push and finally solved Korol on a delayed penalty to take a 1-0 lead. The Colonials started to push back and a collapse from the Lion's defense sprung Giovanni Palombo and he struck to tie the game at one.

Both teams traded opportunities early in the third until one team found the back of the net. It was Palombo and the Colonials. Matthew Purdue fired a shot from mid-rink and hit the stick of Palombo in stride and RMU was up 2-1. Slippery Rock pushed and pushed but the Colonials did not budge. The RMU Colonials are headed to their second straight final-four appearance with a final score of 2-1 over Slippery Rock.

The Colonials will take on the Michigan State Spartans for a chance at the National Championship game at 10:15 A.M Saturday, April 20th.
