The RMU Roller Hockey team got pool play action underway here in Irvine, California taking on the Cal Poly Mustangs and the Temple Owls.

Game 1: RMU vs Cal Poly
Giovanni Palombo got things started early on for the Colonials and would strike again with a couple minutes to go in period 1 to push RMU up 2-0. Derek Le would respond for the Mustangs only 30 seconds later to cut the Colonial lead in half. The Mustangs would open period 2 with a full head of steam putting three behind the Colonial defense off the sticks of Ethan Vernik, Austin Kehl, and Ryan Fehrenback. Now down 4-2, the Colonials changed some things up and the offense began to click.

Tanner Foley struck for his first goal of the tournament followed by Jeremiah Brosovic deflecting a shot from Camron Smith on the power play to tie things at 4 a piece. A crucial third period for both sides, but the Colonials found a way to keep their momentum up. Smith got one of his own followed by Palombo completing the hatrick for a 6-4 win over the Mustangs. Netminder Jarrett Tomazich made 14 saves in the win.

Game 2: RMU vs Temple
Similar to the game vs Cal Poly, Palombo decided to get things going early for the Colonials scoring 34 seconds into the game. Shane Yobbi would follow that up with a goal of his own and the Colonials held a 2-0 lead. Similar to the first period of the last game, the Temple Owls quickly responded with a goal off the stick of Jeffrey Gross. The Colonials responded with force in period 2 as Camron Smith and Palombo netted home one a piece to ride a 4-1 lead to the 2nd intermission.

Jeffrey Gross would net two more in the third for his hat trick but it wouldn't be enough. Tanner Foley and Smith with his second of the game would get late capitalizers and the Colonials would take a 6-3 win over their divisional foe and improve to 2-0 on the tournament.  Tomazich once again had another amazing game in net with 18 saves.

The Colonials square off with the Endicott Gulls at 3:15 and the Tampa Spartans at 8:15 for the remainder of pool play.
