Moon, PA- The Colonials D3 Club Hockey team took on local rival Duquesne at home over the weekend, and the teams played to a 3-3 tie. ACHA Division 3 plays a five minute overtime period, but there is no shootout to crown a winner if the teams are still tied after the overtime period.

In the first period it would be Duquesne who took the early lead. The Dukes scored about three and a half minutes in and carried that lead through the first period. However, the second period swung heavily in favor of RMU. The Colonials outshot Duquesne 16-4 in the second period, and scored twice. Cameron Macariola put RMU on the board to tie it 1-1 with the assist from Tyler Gallo with 6:39 left in the second. Tyler Flowers then put RMU ahead 2-1 with only 4:10 left in the period, with the assist going to Henry Madden.

RMU entered the final regulation period 2-1, but that would be short lived. Duquesne tied the game 2-2 only 1:09 into the 3rd. The two teams traded chances to try and take the lead for most of the 3rd period. It would be the Dukes who finally broke through with 1:37 left in the game. Trailing 3-2 with little time left, the Colonials didn't have much of any time to find the equalizer. Fortunately for them, they didn't need to wait long at all as Brian Baker tied it up with 1:16 left in the game. The assist went to Flowers for his second point of the night.

The two teams headed into OT looking for the game winner. Despite outshooting Duquesne 40-22 in regulation, it was RMU who was outshot in overtime. Despite facing twice as many shots in OT as the Dukes netminder, RMU goaltender Nicholas Arcaya stopped all four shots he faced in overtime to preserve the tie.

The D3 Club team is in action this weekend at home against Indiana University. The games are Friday 11/12 at 8pm and Saturday 11/13 at 4pm, with both games happening down at the Island Sports Center.
