Neville Island, PA- The Men's D3 Club Ice Hockey is firing on all cylinders right now, having scored an unfathomable *24* goals in the past 2 games. Twelve of those 24 goals came a week prior against Mercyhurst. This weekend they hosted Cleveland State, and they met a similar fate as Mercyhurst had. The Colonials out shot their opponent 64-13, and won by a score of 12-0. All but two of the dressed players for RMU recorded a point in this game, and one of those two were Goaltender
Nick Arcaya. But he got his own reward in making the 13 save shutout, the first shutout of his colligate career.
The scoring started early for the Colonials, as Matthew Simkovic scored 2:39 in to make it a 1-0 game.
Liam O'Neill added his first of the season to make it a 2-0 game a few minutes later. The Colonials would take this 2-0 lead into the intermission having played exceptionally well on both ends of the ice. The 2nd period saw the Colonials take a couple penalties in the front half of the period, but strong penalty killing and sound goaltending prevented CSU from getting any closer on the scoreboard.
George Makricostas scored at 5:43 into the period, and this would be the first of 4 goals for the Colonials in the 2nd period.
Austin Davis took a penalty after the Makricostas goal, but made up for it before the period had ended. He scored twice in 27 seconds to open the lead to 5-0.
Nolan Puhula added a goal late in the 2nd as well to enter the intermission up 6-0.
With momentum firmly cemented on their side, RMU's avalanche of goal scoring continued. Makricostas got his 2nd of the game a minute and a half in, and Puhula got his 2nd a minute after that.
Gavin Gallaher and
Camron Smith scored their first of the game mid way through the period to get themselves in the goal column for the game.
Nolan Puhula completed the hat trick for the Colonials 11th of the night and give him his second straight game scoring a hatty.
Norman Riffner would add one last one for good measure and the Colonials would send the crowd home happy with another blowout victory.
While nearly everyone got something in offensively, the top offensive players were as follows:
Matt Simkovic- 1 Goal- 4 Assists- 5 Points
Nolan Puhula- 3 Goals- 0 Assists- 3 Points
George Makricostas- 2 Goals- 1 Assist- 3 Points
Kian Kooros- 0 Goals- 3 Assists- 3 Points
The D3 team will take their red hot offense to downtown Pittsburgh next, for a Friday night matchup against divisional opponent Pitt.
