The RMU Men's Club Soccer team is gearing up to host their 2nd annual 7v7 Colonial Classic Soccer Tournament this summer, scheduled for July 27-28 at the AHN Montour Sports Complex.
The 7v7 Colonial Classic is a youth soccer tournament aimed at U10 and U12 boys and girls teams across the region, serving as the club's main fundraiser.
Last year's inaugural event, held on July 15, welcomed 22 teams, primarily from Pittsburgh but also featuring talent from Ohio, West Virginia, and New York, creating a diverse and competitive lineup. Enhancing the experience, all 247 young athletes were treated to free admission to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC vs. Detroit City FC game later that evening.
The 7v7 Colonial Classic garnered positive feedback from many participants last year. Jess Smith from FC Haaland commented, "I just wanted to say thank you to RMU Men's Club Soccer for organizing such a fantastic tournament today! Everyone in your organization was a pleasure to interact with and had great attitudes. It was wonderful for our kids to see all of you as role models. We hope to participate again next year!"
Looking ahead to this year, the 7v7 Colonial Classic is set to expand, welcoming more members of the local soccer community. Separate divisions have been created for both boys and girls teams at the U10 and U12 age levels. Adding to the excitement, P3R, Pittsburgh's leading non-profit known for organizing transformative sporting events, is supporting this year's tournament by bringing their Kids of STEEL team on-site.
Every team is assured a minimum of four games, and each player will receive complimentary tickets to the Riverhounds vs. Loudoun United game on July 27th. Coaches and parents interested in the event can find additional information and register for the Colonial Classic on the tournament's website.
