RH2 Improves to 6-0

Colonials escape with 9-8 win over Penn State Beaver to maintain undefeated record

The RMU Colonials Tier II Roller Hockey team defeated Penn Stater Beaver on Thursday night by a final score of 9-8.

With both RMU goaltenders being unable to play, (Jeffrey Fyola and Cullen Chestnut), defenseman Ethan Grant suited up in between the pipes.

PSB started the game on their toes, scoring first at the 5 minute mark of period 1. At 9:23, Shane Yobbi would tie the game for RMU as he took the puck from behind his own net and went coast-to-coast for his 8th of the season. Both teams would see chances back and forth with Penn State Beaver capitalizing twice within the last 3.5 minutes to take a 3-1 lead into the second period.

RMU would waste little time as Parker Rutherford would tap one in behind the PSB netminder after a great pass from Shane Yobbi just 37 seconds into the second period. PSB answered at 2:30 with a slapshot from the point that found its way betten Ethan Grant to make it 4-2 PSB. Less than three minutes later, PSB would add to their lead on a set-faceoff play with a quick snapshot from their leading scorer, Christian Bohan. At 8:26, PSB would extend their lead to 6-2 as RMU was unable to clear the puck from the slot. Just over a minute later, Ross LoCastro would leave the puck for Sean Mullen as he threw a backhander on net to make it 6-3. Moments later, Caleb Morgan would feed Shane Yobbi for his second goal on the night as RMU went into the third trailing 6-4 and their perfect record in jeopardy.

Sean Mullen cut PSB's lead to 1 with his second of the night at 0:51 of the third period. Tyler Weekley would then tie the game at 4:57 with a perfect shot off the bar and in with Shane Yobbi adding another assist to his night. PSB then retook the lead just over 2 minutes later, but Shane Yobbi and Tyler Weekley would connect once again to tie the game back up at 7-7. With 3:55 remaining, Sydney Spuzzillo collected her first point of the season after Parker Rutherford scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season on a wrap-around. Just over a minutes later, Shane Yobbi would complete the hat trick and top off a 6-point night (3 goals, 3 assists) to extend RMU's lead to 9-7. His goal would turn out to be the game-winner as PSB cut the lead to just 1 with under a minute remaining in the game. After a mad scramble in front of Ethan Grant, RMU would hang on to preserve their perfect record and move to 6-0 on the season.
