Moon, PA- Robert Morris D1 Hockey is playing at a level we have not seen for some time, and are piecing together the best record the team has had in years. Despite winning the conference championship last season, the Colonials only finished 16-15-4. This year's squad have matched that already, despite fighting through several key injuries. With their two most recent wins RMU now holds a record of 16-4-1. They picked up a 5-1 victory over Duquesne on Friday the 22nd, and followed it up with a 3-2 win over IUP on Saturday the 23rd.

Game 1: RMU wins 5-1 over Duquesne

The Colonials controlled the tempo for much of the evening. They outshot Duquesne 53-41 and took fewer penalty minutes over the course of the game. Robert Morris struck first, when Joshua Brantner scored 12 minutes in to give RMU the lead. The assists were credited to Noah Raymundo and Dillon Joyce. From then on, the Colonials led the game.

The second period opened up offensively for both sides, as more pucks began finding the net. RMU took a 2-0 lead off a Joseph Zottola goal assisted by Andrew Hachmeister and Joyce got his second helper. They added another when freshman Tyler Draper netted a power play goal to make it 3-0, assisted by Antoni Chirgott and Justin Adamski. Duquesne got a power play goal of their own later in the 2nd period, but it would be the only goal they could get past goaltender Parker Rutherford.

RMU added two goals late to seal the victory. The chemistry Adamski and Draper built during their time at the same junior team was on full display. After Adamski helped set up Draper earlier on, Draper returned the favor to help Adamski make it 4-1 RMU. Jeffery Millin added a last second goal assisted by Chirgott and John Parks to make it a 5-1 RMU victory.

Game 2: RMU wins 3-2 over IUP

Robert Morris and IUP entered as two of the top teams in the conference based on conference record. It was a well fought game, but RMU was able to outwork the Crimson Hawks for the 3-2 win. Junior defenseman Andrew Hachmeister opened the scoring 11 minutes into the first period with an even strength goal, assisted by John Parks

The Colonials added to it early in the 2nd period with a power play goal by defenseman Noah Raymundo, assisted by Joseph Zottola. It was a penalty filled 2nd period as both teams were handed misconducts at some point in the period.

IUP answered with a power play goal early in the 3rd to bring it back to within 1. However, the eventual game winning goal was a career first for Braeden Harbison. Parks and Trevor Johnson set him up to rifle it from a sharp angle and make it a 3-1 RMU lead. The goal can be viewed down below.

The Crimson Hawks would score one more following the Harbison goal, but goaltender Lewis Richardson locked it down after that. He recorded 28 saves on the afternoon.
