RMU ACHA D1 Playoff Game Vs. Kent State CHMA Playoff Round 1

The RMU ACHA Division I Colonials opened CHMA Playoff Round 1 on Friday afternoon at Hope Gas Ice Pavilion, taking on West Virginia University in a 4:00 p.m. Despite a strong start from the Colonials, WVU rallied late to claim the victory.

In the first period, RMU came out flying and established early momentum. Just 34 seconds into the game, #4 Andrew Finnegan put the Colonials on the board at 19:26, giving RMU an immediate 1-0 lead. The Colonials extended their advantage later in the period when #14 Corbin Ragno found the back of the net at 3:46, pushing RMU ahead 2-0 and forcing WVU to respond. West Virginia answered late in the period with a breakaway goal, cutting the Colonials' lead in half heading into the first intermission.

In the second period, WVU carried momentum into the second period, tying the game at 6:58. RMU responded midway through the frame when #11 Trevor Cohlberg restored the Colonials' lead with a goal at 2:45, making it 3-2.

In the third period, the Mountaineers turned the momentum up in the final period. WVU tied the score at 5:52 before taking the lead at 12:49. The offensive push continued with goals at 11:29, 5:35, and 1:05, allowing WVU to pull away late in the game. Despite the result, the Colonials showed early offensive strength and strong puck movement in the opening two periods. RMU's ability to jump out to an early lead highlighted the team's offensive potential in postseason play. The Colonials had a strong season, now regrouping for next season and honoring their seniors.
