Women's Rugby Suffers First Losses of the Season

10/7/2019 2:48:00 PM

Latrobe, PA- Women's Rugby had a less than stellar weekend against St. Vincent College. The Colonials lost all 3 matches and are now 6-3 on the season. The club was shorthanded in the sense they were missing some key players, but ultimately it was just not RMU's night. SVC were also very efficient on their conversions on Friday evening, going 8/13 in total between the games. RMU was 0/1 on conversions.

Game 1: RMU loses 14-5

It was a tough physical battle in the first match. The back and forth play of bend but don't break defense led to the score being 0-0 at the half. St. Vincent's would open the scoring in the 9th minute, and would strike again in the 12th. Two successful conversions led to the score being 14-0. A late try by Ciera Thompson got the Colonials on the board, but that would be lone offensive highlight for the Colonials on the evening.

Game 2: RMU loses 26-0

The limited amount of substitutes led to 2 things of note in this second match. The first being fatigue setting in and preventing Robert Morris from getting much going offensively. With no real sustained offensive pressure, SVC was able to stretch the weary Colonial defense and got out to a large lead. However, there was a silver lining to the match. Two players made their rugby debuts in this matchup. Adina Lightner and Emaleigh Bevan stepped up and played brilliantly in their debut. They were fearless and we not afraid to make plays on defense.

Game 3: RMU loses 41-0

SVC continued to roll as they had all the momentum on their side. Madelyn Bashore played particularly strong this match making a lot of good defensive stops. However, it was not enough to stop the wave of momentum SVC had as they were dominant in nearly all facets of the game.

The Women's Rugby team will have a few days to regroup and get ready to host Fairmont State University this Saturday afternoon. First match is scheduled for 2pm.
