The RMU Women's Rugby team have had three members named to National Collegiate Rugby's Scholastic All-Americans list for 2021-2022! Anyone selected for this list needed to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.50 and must be rostered for at least 50% of a team's games in either the Fall 15's or Spring 7's season. With 3 receipts receiving the award from RMU, it places Robert Morris within the Top 15 schools in the nation for the number of Women's Rugby players receiving this award. A total of 99 female athletes received this award from the NCR.
The three Colonials who received it were veteran leader Maddie Bashore '22, Kayla Pierce '23, and Claire Bawiec '24. All three were regular starters for the team and saw a lot of action throughout the season, including powering RMU to win the Fall 2021 Allegheny Rugby Union 7s Challenge tournament. RMU Club Sports is thrilled to congratulate them on their achievements both on and off the pitch.
National Collegiate Rugby CEO Jeremy Treece when speaking of the award winners had this to say, "We are pleased to honor this year's group of Scholastic All Americans. We congratulate each of these student athletes on their academic success, which they achieved while balancing the demands of weekly training, long weekends to away matches, and the regular physical and mental recovery from seasonal matches." The team will be returning to the pitch soon once students return to campus in a few weeks, and they'll be looking to continue their success in competition and in the classroom.
