Women's Bowling

Women's Bowling Makes Major Strides at AHIBC #1 and #2

Team Finishes 12th out of 17 in #1, 15th in #2

Canton, MI- Conference tournaments add a new level of tired to college bowling. These tournaments take the average amount of Team and Baker games over a two day event and squish it into one day. Then they add a second just like it right behind it. Between showing up before the event for registration and practice to the actual end of the event, the team spends around 10 hours each day inside the bowling alley. From 7am to 4:30/5pm, they have to be focused in to find success on the lanes. The Women's Bowling team showed concrete signs of improvement this weekend, finishing 12th in the Saturday event and 15th in the Sunday event.

Saturday- RMU finishes 12th

The Saturday event started strong for the Colonials and they maintained it throughout the 5 team games. Paced by freshman Tatiana Johnson's 210 in the opening game, the team rolled an 805 are sat 10th out of the 17 teams following the first match. Danielle Long took the highest score of the 2nd game, throwing a 179 in Game 2 in what ended as a 764 team game. However, that 764 would be the only time the team dipped below 800 for a team game on the day. Long and Johnson combined the efforts they had individually through the first two games, and rolled a 183 and 182 respectively in the 3rd team game. The 3rd team game ended up as a 820.

The women got the most well rounded game of the day in the 4th team game. This also ended up as the highest team game the team threw on the day, an 834. Tatiana Johnson led the team with a 179, but Cameron Nickel added a 175 and Alina Chemini threw a 167 to help RMU reach that score. Cammy Nickel added a 199 in the final team game to help propel the Colonials to another 800+ game. It was their 4 of the day. After the end of the 4th team game, Robert Morris was 8th in the field.

The bakers was where things got rough. The team had some rough sets to close out the event. Partially due to fatigue, and partially due to questionable lineup decisions by team manager Alex Gagnon the team dropped to 12th place in the standings. However, 12th is still a very strong showing for the team. Defeating 5 other varsity programs is new territory for the team, and is a major accomplishment for RMU's women's team. In total, RMU collected 5,611 pins on Saturday.

Sunday- RMU finishes 15th

On Sunday the team did not find the same early success they had found the prior day. The team opened up with a 661, led by Tatiana Johnson's 158. Team Game 2 was a rough one as well for the team as they finished with a 610 total series. Danielle Long's 145 took the high score for RMU in the game. The team improved a bit in Game 3, finishing with a 639. Tatiana Johnson threw a 151 and Danielle Long had a 145 in the game. The final team game was by far their strongest work of the Sunday event. The team improved to a 733 in that game, beating their Game 2 total by a 123 pins. Johnson's 172 led the way, and it was assisted by Long's 152 and Tailynne Cumberland's 148.

The bakers were nothing to save the result as well. Through the 4 sets, the baker total was a 2,073. The team wound up with a 15th place finish at the events end. In total, the team finished with 4,716 pins.
