Your Men's D1 Hockey Team hosted the University at Buffalo Bulls here at the Clearview Arena. This was the first game of a two-game series against Buffalo, with the second match being played tomorrow. RMU entered this game with an impressive 4-1 record, and would look to keep their amazing start to the season going.Â
Â
The first period got underway, and the RMU defense was showing their talent early. They were denying the Bulls in a very physical manner, limiting them to very few scoring opportunities. Defense eventually turned into offense, when who else but Roman Kraemer buried a shot past the Buffalo goalie and opened the scoring 1-0. Just minutes later, Kraemer sent another shot on goal that got saved, but Justin Adamski collected the rebound and slotted it right past the goalie. RMU now had a 2-0 lead to show for their impressive start to this game. As the period went on, this sound Colonial defense was leaving the Bulls with no answers. Parker Rutherford was holding down his goal very well. Eventually, the period would close and the Colonials would maintain their 2-0 lead.
Â
The Bulls started seeing a few more opportunities as the second period got started, but time after time Parker Rutherford held his ground and came up with some great saves. On the offensive end, RMU came close to adding another goal multiple times, but the Bulls started to tighten up and limit anything dangerous. With 8 minutes remaining in the period, Alejandro Apud de la Fuente scored a goal that he would remember forever. It was his first goal as a Colonial, with many more sure to come from the freshman. Time would trickle out in the second period, and RMU would hold a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Â
The third period started, and all the Colonials had to do now was protect their lead. They were playing physical all game, with some roughing calls sprinkled throughout the entirety of this game. Buffalo started this period with a power play, but they simply couldn't find any sort of opening. The RMU defense was putting on a show like they had been all game. Roman Kraemer ended up getting his second goal of the game, with assists coming from George Makricostas and Giovanni Palombo. With a 4-0 lead, RMU eventually cruised to a victory and defeated Buffalo in the first game of this series. Parker Rutherford had an outstanding game, with a whopping 46 saves and a clean sheet.
