RMU Splits Series with #5 Liberty University
Many teams go into Liberty University's 4,000 seat LeHaye Ice Center and end up getting swept up in the excitement of the atmosphere only to leave on the wrong side of the matchup. RMU hadn't played Liberty in a decade, and handled the challenge with flying colors. Despite being outshot 63-30, the Colonials were led by goaltender Parker Rutherford's 62 saves and timely goals by Justin Adamski, who tallied the first two markers of the game for RMU. Adamski went into the weekend with the second most points in the ACHA and continued his hot start with two impressive goals.
After Adamski's two second period goals, the Colonials got two empty net goals in the third period from Giovanni Palombo and Roman Kraemer to seal the 4-1 triumph and provide RMU with its first signature win of the season. The game was televised on ESPN+, which provided RMU with a national stage to play their best game of the season. Head Coach Michael Joseph said, "the guys are very excited that they played very well this weekend. Friday night was a very big win for us. The team is now dealing with a number of injuries after Saturday's game (a 9-2 loss) so we'll have to figure out how to regroup for next weekend."
Kraemer and Adamski continued their scoring streak on Saturday night, but it wasn't enough to capture the two game sweep as RMU faced an inspired Liberty team that led narrowly 2-1 midway through the second period and went on a run of seven unanswered goals to blow open game two in the third period. The Colonials will face another difficult road trip to Rhode Island this upcoming weekend and will try to overcome injuries and build on the momentum of their Liberty victory.
