MOON TOWNSHIP, PA. – September 19–20, 2025 – The Robert Morris University ACHA Division I men's hockey team opened its 2025–26 season with a two-game series against Canisius at the RMU Island Sports Center.

Game 1 – Friday, Sept. 19, 8:15 p.m.

Final Score: Canisius 7, RMU 3

Skaters: Jackson Hayburn, Devin Rohrich, Jimmy Passanante, Andrew Finnegan, Tyler Radai
First Period
Canisius seized early control with three unanswered goals. An RMU turnover led to a 3-on-1 rush that beat Patrick to the left post. Minutes later, Landon Goodwin capitalized on an unlucky bounce for the Colonials, and Collin Bandalin buried a slot one-timer to make it 3-0.
Second Period
The Colonials answered back when Connor Moran fired a quick shot at 14:54 to break the shutout. Canisius responded with goals from Quinn Collins and a backhand bardown from Bandalin, his second of the night. RMU regained momentum late when Passanante converted a power-play snap shot at 4:15.
Third Period
Despite sustained pressure, RMU couldn't close the gap. Bandalin completed his hat trick off a turnover, Goodwin added his second goal, and freshman Trevor Schmidt finished a 2-on-1 at 7:40 for RMU's final score. 

Game 2 – Saturday, Sept. 20, 1:45 p.m.

Final Score: Canisius 1, RMU 0
On Saturday, both teams had heavy checks and strong chances, but the goalies stood tall through two scoreless periods. At 5:07 of the second, officials initially signaled a Colonial goal before waving it off after review. The scoreless game finally broke at 9:06 of the third when Canisius slipped a rebound for the game's only goal. RMU pressed hard in the closing minutes, peppering shots from the hashmarks, but the Colonials were unable to respond. Despite their opening weekend losses, the Colonials showed strength and determination and look forward to the games ahead.
