Coraopolis, PA- RMU's regular season ended on Wednesday, February 26th against the (2-10-1) Penn State Beavers. Despite their record, PSU came out with a passion, taking the game all the way into a shootout where RMU would prevail with a final score of 7-6.
1st Period: PSU came ready to play and put RMU on their heels early. 2 minutes and 42 seconds into the game, PSU got one past Tyler Hazenstab to take an early 1-0 lead. The game would see some back and forth action until 10:31 where Phillip Bacinski would notch his second goal of the season after tipping a puck past the PSU netminder off a feed from Tyler Savisky. PSU would answer back quickly though at 11:45 and the period would end 2-1 in PSU's favor.
2nd Period: PSU came out in the second to extend their lead at 3:42 and RMU would start to battle back. Tucker McKee scored at 6:55 (assisted by Jacob Zentner) and less than 4 minutes later, McKee would score his second of the night off a feed from Sean Mullen to tie the game up 3-3. However, PSU would regain their lead just 57 seconds later to head into the 3rd period with a 4-3 lead.
3rd Period: Once again, it would be PSU who was ready for the start of the period as they potted 2 goals in the first half of the 3rd to make the game 6-3 and they were looking to end RMU's 6 game winning streak. However, with under 6 minutes left to play, RMU's leading scorer, Tyler Savisky, would put the team on his back and record a hat trick in under 3 minutes of play. At 9:07, Tyler got his first of the night from Phillip Bacinski, his second at 11:04 from Tucker McKee, and his third from his brother, Alex Savisky, just 41 seconds later at 11:45.
Overtime: RMU controlled much of the play, but failed to generate many high-scoring chances. They moved the puck well, but for the second time this season Robert Morris would head to a shootout.
