Coraopolis, PA- RMU Tier II team kicked off the second half of their season and 2020 with some player debuts and a 8-4 win over Penn State. RMU improves toward .500 with a now 4-4-1 record and Penn State are still looking for win #1 on the season with a now 0-9 record. There were a handful of lineup changes with the departures of
Hayden Schultz,
Peter Andrews, and
Josh Zollars. Danny Kuzora and Jacob Zentner were added to the roster this semester.
It was a back and forth affair for much for the first two periods of play before RMU pulled away in the 3rd period.
Tucker McKee opened the scoring for RMU a few minutes into the first period thanks to a quick shot in tight against the goaltender. Despite taking the early lead, it would not hold. Penn State answered a minute later to tie the game and then got another one later on to take a 2-1 lead.
Tyler Savisky scored for the Colonials to tie the game in the 2nd period at 2-2. The Nittany Lions would retake the lead 3-2, but Savisky got his second of the evening to make it a 3-3 game.
RMU's offense exploded in the 3rd period for 5 unanswered goals which sealed the game in the Colonials favor.
Sean Mullen found the back of the net twice in the third, and assisted on
Ethan Grant's goal. Grant's goal also was netted in the third period as a part of the 5 goal run. Ross Locastro got a goal too for the Colonials. Finally, Jacob Zentner scored a goal in his season debut with the Colonials. In the spirit of firsts,
Phillip Bacinski recorded his first career point by picking up the assist on Savisky's 2nd goal. By this point the score became 8-3, and it was not far off from the games final score of 8-4.
The team now looks ahead to next week. They square off with La Roche on Wednesday, January 29th at 10:30pm.
