9/30/2019 1:40:00 PM

Pittsburgh, PA- The Club Baseball team travelled downtown to play Duquesne in a 3 game series over the course of the weekend. With two games on Saturday and another on Sunday, it was a busy weekend for the squad. RMU dropped both of the Saturday games, but came back on Sunday and picked up a big win to end the series. With these being the first games of conference play, the Colonials are now 1-2 in conference play this season. RMU's overall record is now 2-3.

Game 1: RMU loses 12-7

Duquesne got ahead early, amassing a 5-0 lead after the first inning. RMU's offense would wake up late, scoring 5 runs in the 5th and 6th innings but it wasn't enough. Despite outhitting Duquesne 14-11, the Colonials lose 12-7. Even though it was a losing effort, RMU had a strong day at the plate. David Williams went 3 for 4 in his first game in the lineup this year, adding 2 RBI to that as well. Andrew Sheeler and Jordan Sabo both went 2 for 3, and combined for 4 RBI (3 for Sheeler, 1 for Sabo). Ryan Nelson and Angelo Doyle also batted well, both going 2 for 4. Josh McCoy got the start for RMU, and he'll take his second loss of the season. He went 5 innings in this one, picked up 7 strikeouts but allowed 9 earned runs.

Game 2: RMU loses 12-2

The Colonials' Saturday went from bad to worse in Game 2 as RMU found themselves down 12-0 after 3 innings. Duquesne's 7 run 3rd inning really put the Colonials in a hole they couldn't dig out of. The bats got going a little bit for RMU in the 5th, picking up 2 runs but that was it. That score would hold as the final as Duquesne won 12-2. Michael Fuchs had a rough go on the mound in this one, after a brilliant performance a week earlier against Cleveland State. Fuchs allowed 10 earned runs in just 3 innings pitched. Freshman Robbie Seitz did well in a relief effort, throwing 2 K's and not allowing any earned runs. Nick Savini was RMU's top batter for the game, going 3 for 3 at the plate and tacking on an RBI.

Game 3: RMU wins 10-6

Coming back for their final game Sunday, RMU came back with renewed determination and focus. A big 5 run 2nd inning helped the Colonials get ahead early. After the 3rd inning, Robert Morris led 8-2. The Colonials got a boost from Duquesne's sloppy fielding. They recorded 9 errors in the game, outnumbering their hits (8). This plus some strong pitching from freshman Ryan Myers led the Colonials to a 10-6 victory on the road to prevent the series sweep. Myers pitched a complete game, allowing only 3 earned runs in the process. David Williams and Angelo Doyle both recorded a triple in this game assisting the offensive production. Williams went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI, and Doyle went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.

Club Baseball get to host their next series, which is a three game set against Carnegie Mellon here in Moon, PA.
