Cleveland, OH- Club Baseball started their season this weekend on the road for a two game series against Cleveland State. The Colonials fell in a close first game 9-7, but gathered themselves and put on a dominant performance in Game 2 winning 9-2.
Game 1
The first matchup got away from the Colonials quickly, as they were down 4-0 after the first inning and 6-1 after the 3rd. Starting Pitcher Josh McCoy did not have the best game on the mound, surrounding 8 earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched.
Ryan Myers closed out the game for the Colonials on the mound, allowing only 2 hits and 1 earned run in 1.2 innings pitched. Down 6-1 entering the 5th inning, RMU's bats came alive as they scored 5 in the 5th to tie the game.
Jared Milstein had a big game at the plate, going 3 for 4 at the plate.
Jordan Sabo led the team with 2 RBI in the game. However, despite bringing the game to a 6-6 tie, the Colonials could not hold on to it down the stretch and lost 9-7.
Game 2
RMU got right to work in the second game offensively. A big 5 run second inning help the Colonials spring ahead to 6-0 lead after 2, and an 8-0 lead after 3. Leadoff batter
Angelo Doyle went 3 for 4, and
Jordan Sabo continued his fine work in the RBI department with another 3 RBI in this game. Once the hefty lead was established, the Colonials were able to cruise to victory behind the stellar pitching performance of Michael Fuchs. Fuchs pitched a complete game in which he only allowed 2 runs, only 1 of which was earned. Additionally, he struck out 10 CSU batters on the way to RMU's first victory of the season 9-2.
The Club Baseball team is now 1-1 on the season, with the team thriving offensively. The team has multiple 5 run innings already this season, and is averaging 8 runs scored a game. Their next series of games will be against rival Duquesne University, on September 28th and 29th.
