Morgantown, WV- The Colonials went to Morgantown to take on the division champs West Virginia for a 3 game series. However, RMU was fighting an uphill battle all weekend long and ended up losing all 3 games to West Virginia. The Mountaineers bats were hot all weekend as Robert Morris dropped the games 12-2, 16-6, and 12-6.
Game 1: RMU loses 12-2
The Colonials had a brutal 2nd inning that caused them to fall behind 8-0 after two, and nothing really got going after that for the team. Pitcher Josh McCoy was on the mound for the Colonials, striking out 5 in 4 2/3 innings. Nicolas Savani lead the Colonials at the plate going 2 for 3 on the afternoon.
David Williams and Michael Fuchs safely reached base three times, both doing so by recording a hit and getting walked twice.
Game 2: RMU loses 16-6
The other Saturday contest did not fare much better for Robert Morris. While the Colonials got the bats going early in the second game, they could not maintain the lead and had a rough second half to the back to back. The Colonials got on the board first with a huge 5 run first inning, highlighted by a Grand Slam by
Jordan Sabo! RMU led 5-3 after 2 innings and kept that lead until the bottom of the 4th inning. There the wheels came off the bus and West Virginia scored 10 runs to secure the lead and the game. Nick Savani homered a solo shot in the 5th inning but the game remained out of reach and the Colonials lost 16-6.
Michael Fuchs started on the mound for RMU, and it was a solid start until the 4th inning WVU had.
Robbie Seitz also pitched an inning in relief for RMU. Sabo and Savani's home runs were the big takeaways offensively for the team.
Game 3: RMU loses 12-6
This game was the closest of the 3 on the weekend. RMU had the early advantage, leading 2-0 after the 1st inning and were leading 5-0 entering the bottom of the second. But as was the theme for the weekend, all it takes is one major inning for WVU to take the lead. WVU scored 9, and the game was 9-5 after the second. Each team scored a bit more down the stretch, but not enough from either team to alter the course of the game.
Ryan Myers started on the mound for the Colonials pitching the first three innings, and Seitz made his second relief appearance of the weekend pitching the back three innings. Nick Savani launched another home run, his second of the weekend and went 2 for 4 at the plate. Savani, along with Josh Hittle and
Josh Young hit a double in this one as well.
