The RMU Pickleball team opened their season at home with a competitive match against Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday October 28th. The final score of the day was the Colonials with 9 points and CMU with 50 points. There was a lot of pickleball played this crisp fall morning with RMU winning 7 matches and CMU winning 29.
The day consisted of both singles and doubles matches with multiple pairings and solo athletes coming out on top for the Colonials. Alex Viljaste was victorious with a 10-12 win in a singles match early in the day. Hunter Chaikcic and senior Ryan Yob also found themselves victorious in the singles match ups winning 11-5 and 11-4.Â
The Colonials also showed great team chemistry as they had some strong pairings throughout the day. Riley Boyer and Cole, Isaac Arnold & Hunter Chaikcic, and the dynamic duo of Andy Zheng & Ryan Yob were some top pairings for RMU. Although the results were not ideal for RMU, the Colonials fought hard in every match and each member contributed greatly.Â
Club President Trey Reichenfeld reflects on the showing and says that although it may not have been the team's best performance, they still had a ton of fun playing different players and look forward to taking on CMU again in the spring with CMU being the host team in the next match up.
