Colonials Battle to Overtime Tie Against Penn State Altoona
The Robert Morris University Division 4 ACHA Men's Hockey team fought to an intense 5–5 overtime draw against Penn State Altoona on Saturday, October 18th, at the RMU Island Sports Center on Clearview Arena.
The first period saw Penn State Altoona strike early, scoring twice on quick transitions — the first on a breakaway at 8:05, followed by another just a minute later at 7:07 to give them a 2–0 lead heading into intermission. RMU responded with determination in the second period, mounting a strong comeback. #10 Elijah Zeis-Miller got the Colonials on the board at 15:34, followed by #14 Tullio DiDomenico netting the equalizer at 12:59. Just moments later, #24 Charlie Natress celebrated a milestone with his first career goal at 12:10, putting RMU ahead 3–2.
Penn State Altoona quickly countered, regaining momentum with back-to-back goals at 10:52 and 9:59, reclaiming the lead before the end of the second period. The third period delivered nonstop action. #14 Tullio DiDomenico tallied his second goal of the night with 2:46 remaining to tie things up again. Penn State Altoona responded swiftly, scoring at 2:13 to make it 5–4 — but RMU refused to quit. With only 14 seconds left, #26 Joseph Pulleo buried the game-tying goal to send the contest into overtime.
Both teams battled hard in the extra frame, but neither could find the back of the net, resulting in a 5–5 tie after an intense and evenly matched showdown. RMU showed resilience and depth throughout the lineup, with notable performances from DiDomenico's two-goal effort and Nazareth's first career tally.
Colonials Skate Past CMU in Friday Night Victory 5-1
The Robert Morris University Colonials D4 ACHA Men's Hockey team skated to victory over Carnegie Mellon University on Friday, October 24th, at the Shady Side Academy Ice Rink. The matchup was highlighted by solid teamwork, offensive control, and an impressive debut performance from freshman goaltender #35 Nathan MacBride in his first collegiate game.
RMU opened the scoring midway through the first period when #10 Elijah Zeis-Miller found the back of the net at 12:59, setting the first action of the night. The Colonials carried their momentum into the second period, extending their lead with three consecutive goals. #8 John Wayne Kravitz struck early at 19:43, followed shortly by #25 Julian Drass at 19:20, and #18 Tim Williams added another at 10:47, pushing RMU firmly ahead. In the third period, #13 Mitch Klym capitalized on a scoring opportunity at 16:19, further securing the Colonials' lead. CMU managed to get on the board with a lone goal at 14:42, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.
With strong defense, sharp goaltending from Macbride, and consistent offensive pressure, RMU controlled the game from start to finish, earning a well-deserved win.
