RMU ACHA DI Hockey Splits Weekend Series with Drexel

Moon Township, PA – The Robert Morris University ACHA D1 men's ice hockey team played Drexel University in a two-game series on January 24 and 25, 2025. The Colonials battled at the RMU Island Sports Center to an overtime victory Friday night but fell short in Saturday's rematch.

RMU opened the weekend with a comeback win in overtime. Drexel struck first in the opening period, scoring 14:25 in the period. The Dragons extended their lead to 2-0 at 8:41 of the second before RMU's #10 Michael Hurst found the back of the net at 2:55.
In the third period, RMU's #17 Tyler Draper scored a power-play goal at 15:32 to tie the game. Just two minutes later, #11 Trevor Colberg put RMU ahead 3-2, but Drexel answered with a power-play goal of their own with 5:56 left, forcing overtime.
 
In the extra frame, RMU's  #18 Connor Moran played the hero, scoring the game-winner at 13:52 to secure a 4-3 victory for the Colonials.
 
Final Score: RMU 4, Drexel 3 (OT)

Saturday, January 25: Drexel 6, RMU 1

Looking to build off their game from Friday night, the Colonials and Drexel skated to a scoreless first period in Saturday's contest. However, Drexel took control in the second, jumping to a 3-0 lead.
The Colonials struggled to find offense in the final frame, with #20 Braeden Martin scoring RMU's only goal of the game. Drexel continued to press, adding three more goals to secure a 6-1 victory.

Final Score: 6-1 Drexel

RMU ACHA Women's D2 Fall to Niagara 5-2 in A Hard-Fought Game

Moon Township, PA- The Robert Morris University (RMU) ACHA D2 women's team faced a challenging match up against Niagara University on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the RMU Island Sports Center. Despite a valiant effort, the Colonials fell short, with the final score favoring Niagara. 5-2. 

The Colonials fought hard throughout the whole game. In the first period, the Colonials struck first #7 Sydnee Pitkins scoring for RMU. In the second, Niagara scored to tie the game 1-1. In the third RMU's #24, Hayley Whittaker scored to break the tie making it 2-1. Throughout the rest of the game, the Colonials fought hard but Niagara came back, making the score 5-2 at the end of the second.

RMU ACHA D3 Falls to IUP in Hard-Fought Home Matchup

Moon Township, PA – The RMU ACHA D3 men's ice hockey team played Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) on Saturday night at the RMU Island Sports Center but came up short in a 4-1 defeat.

In the first period, fans saw both teams locked in a defensive battle, with neither side finding the back of the net. RMU had opportunities but couldn't score as IUP's goaltender stood strong. The game remained scoreless until the final moments of the second period when IUP scored a shorthanded goal with just 4.1 seconds left with IUP leading 1-0 into the third. 

IUP carried their momentum into the final frame, scoring at 17:33 and adding another shortly after to bring the score to 3-0. RMU responded when #27  Sidney Crabtree found the back of the net at 8:55, giving the Colonials life. However, IUP sealed the game with a late tally at 52.6 seconds, securing the 4-1 victory.
