Erie, PA- The D1 Club Hockey team had themselves quite the battle with the Mercyhurst Lakers over the weekend. Despite being tied or trailing for over 59 minutes of the regulation time, the Colonials took home the win with a 5-4 shootout victory. This improves the Colonials to 9-1 on the season.

RMU would open the scoring first with a Brian Schindler goal eight and a half minutes in to give RMU the early lead. They would hold that lead for 47 seconds, and then not see it again until the shootout. Mercyhurst tied it up 1-1, and that's how the teams would go into the 2nd period. The Lakers would score one in the 2nd period to take the 2-1 lead into the 3rd period.

Both teams' offenses broke through in a big way in the 3rd period. First, Mercyhurst scored six minutes into the frame to make it a 3-1 game. The Colonials would finally answer back 90 seconds later with a Justin Adamski goal to make it only a 1 goal deficit again. Giovanni Palumbo would score with only nine minutes remaining to tie the game at 3. 

The Lakers would retake the lead with seven minutes left with a second goal from Jaden Riley. Time began running short, but the Colonials remained on the attack. Palumbo fired home the equalizer and his second of the period with less than three minutes left, which forced the game into overtime. With neither team scoring in OT despite some quality chances, it was left up to the shootout. Kevin Mackey stopped each Mercyhurst attempt, and Justin Adamski would be the only player to score for either team in the shootout to win it for RMU.

RMU improves to 9-1 on the season, and look to add two more wins this weekend in a home stand against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Friday (11/5) night game is scheduled for 8:15pm and the Saturday afternoon (11/6) contest for 4:15pm.
