R6 Blue Wins First Ever Playoff Match

RMU holds on for narrow victory over ISU JV, 2-1 (22-19)

Moon, PA- RMU Rainbow 6 Siege checked off a major milestone for the program with R6 Blue recording their first ever playoff victory this week with a win over Iowa State JV and R6 Red making their first ever playoff appearance.

For the flagship Blue program, the win did not come easy. Despite entering the match at a perfect 4-0, the team saw two of the three maps go deep into overtime. In the opening round RMU squeaked out an 8-7 OT win on Chalet to take the early match lead.

RMU opened the 2nd map (Oregon) strong, jumping out to a 4-1 lead to start. ISU would battle back to tie it 4-4 after 8 rounds. Each side would trade victories back and forth until it reached overtime once again with the score 7-7. However this time it would be ISU who took the decisive victory.

With the match series tied 1-1, a third map was needed to settle it. With the final map being Bank, RMU looked to finally get over the playoff hurdle that had stopped them in years prior. It was a back and forth contest early. ISU took the first round, then RMU responded with two straight wins. After a few more traded rounds, RMU led 3-2. Round 6 saw a massive 4K round from Zetick (Zachariah Ledonne) to expand the lead to 4-2. From there, RMU finished out the rest of the series enroute to a 7-4 map win and a 2-1 overall win.

Zetick had a stellar final map with a K/D of 13/4. Reprivation (Michael Campbell) and Jumbolia (Evan Olesko) also had strong K/D games at 11K/6D and 8K/6D respectively. Icy (Joey Alfredo) and Celestial (Michael Schwarz) rounded out the team at 8K/7D and 3K/5D respectively.

When asked about the team's performance in the game, captain Zetick felt the team could do better saying, "Tuesday's game was a bit rough, obviously we were expecting a better result but we're grateful for the win". When asked about what this win meant for the program, Zetick said, "It means a lot to the team to finally get this win. We often are told we take the game too seriously, but we truly love the game and want to be the best we can. We acknowledge we have a ceiling but we believe we haven't hit it yet and have more to prove in the Collegiate scene."

R6 Blue will move on to face Oklahoma State on Friday, October 15th at 9:30pm. The stream will be hosted on twitch.tv/rmucolonials.

As for the R6 Red team, it is the first time they've made the playoffs in their existence. Back to back wins over Kutztown and Rutgers helped them sneak into the playoffs following a couple losses to start the season. In their opening round match up, the team went up against R6 powerhouse Akron. While the match ended in a 2-0 sweep for Akron, the fall season still goes down as a success for the squad for their first ever playoff berth.

They will be back in action later this year also on twitch.tv/rmucolonials.
