5/28/2020 10:01:00 AM

Moon, PA- A season cut short for RMU Baseball is disappointing, but the Colonials had some highlights in their 2019-2020 campaign. This years squad was led by senior president Ryan Nelson, junior vice president David Williams, and senior student-coach Roger Diehl. RMU finished the season 5-8 overall, with a 3-6 record in the conference. Despite having some struggles early on, they did post an over .500 record at home this season. They went 2-1 this year at home, winning their season series with Carnegie Mellon.

The peak of the season was one of their final games of the year, a two game series over spring break against the University of South Florida. Despite being the Colonials being the heavy underdogs in the series, they were able to walk away with a split series thanks to a stellar 5-4 win in the first game. They took a 4-0 lead after the 3rd innings, and they were able to shut the door enough to hold on for the win. Pitcher Ryan Myers went the full 7 innings and looked brilliant all afternoon, recording 4 strikeouts and only allowing 5 hits and 1 earned run. David Williams added 3 hits for the Colonials, with Jordan Sabo and Angelo Doyle both adding 2 of their own.

While there was still part of the season left unplayed, the team has nominated several of their members for various awards. The first award was Team MVP, and it was awarded to David Williams. Williams is a junior and this season was his third year with the team. This season he was a machine at the plate, batting .500 in 38 At Bats, and finished with an OPS of 1.359. He also picked up a homerun this season against USF. RMU Baseball's Rookie of the Year was Angelo Doyle. The freshman accounting major from Masontown, PA finished this season with a batting average of .351 and an OPS of .872, he consistently led off the Colonials batting order. The final award was for Best Sportsmanship, which went to junior Darren Brown. Brown is well respected by his teammates and he appeared in nearly all of the team's games this season.

Next season, the Colonials will be looking to finish with a over .500 record both overall and in conference play.
