Tier II Roller Hockey Makes it 4 Straight Wins

2/7/2020 8:49:00 AM

Coraopolis, PA- RMU's DIV (Tier II) team won their fourth in a row following their victory over Duquesne's third team, Duquesne Schroeder. RMU is now 6-4-1 this season and Duquesne Schroeder falls to now 1-9-0.

Despite the record difference, Duquesne took the Colonials to a shootout in their first meeting where RMU won 3-2. In this second and final meeting of the regular season, the game seemed to be evenly matched once again at the start. RMU controlled the puck for the majority of the 1st period, but low shot totals and good defensive play by Duquesne made for what looked like a 0-0 first period.

However, a surprise Colonial would break the scoreless tie with 1:02 to go in the 1st. After going on the power play for the second time in the period, forward Phillip Bacinski would once again take his usual spot in front of the net. Michael Hays would collect the puck on the far side and throw it in front. Bacinski's stick helped direct that puck to the back of the net, and Bacinski would score his first goal in his collegiate career! This season has been Phillip's first playing organized hockey, and has been improving all season. The team was ecstatic when we saw the puck go in knowing this was a personal goal of his all season. This would end the period at 1-0 RMU.

The second period would see the game open up a bit with both sides getting more shots on goal. Just 26 seconds into the second period, Tyler Savisky would get one past the Duquesne netminder on the powerplay, with Danny Kuzora picking up the assist. Ross LoCastro would net one at 2:58 of the second period to make it 3-0. Duquesne would get on the board shortly after to make it 3-1. With 52 seconds left in the second, Tyler Savisky would score his second of the night (assisted by Jacob Zentner). This would put the Colonials on top 4-1 heading into the 3rd period.

At 4:23, Sean Mullen found the top corner off an assist from Jacob Zentner to extend the Colonial's lead to 5-1. Alex Savisky would score at 8:17 assisted by Michael Hays. Hays would then score at 10:58, assisted by Phillip Bacinski, Duquesne would score their second goal of the game a few moments later, but Tucker McKee would seal the deal with 2:05 remaining in the game, assisted by Tyler Savisky to leave it as an 8-2 final score.

Next week, the Colonials will be looking for revenge against CMU who won 5-1 back in September during the first game of the season. CMU (7-4-0) will put their 3-game win streak up against RMU's (6-4-1) 4-game win streak. Their meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 12th at 11:30pm.
