Moon, PA- It won't show up as a victory on the scoresheet, but there was plenty to be proud of for Rocket League Red's 5 game thriller against Pitt A. Robert Morris' RL Red is their second strongest team based off of MMR ratings, and Pitt A is Pitt's strongest team based off MMR. It was a back and forth series that saw RMU fall behind and comeback in the series twice before they ultimately dropped game 5.
Game 1 was a blowout victory for Pitt A 6-0, as RMU was not prepared for the speed Pitt A brought to the table. Pitt A was one of the best teams RMU has played since the start of the Collegiate Star League season, and it took RMU a game to break out and get back to work.
Game 2 saw RMU even up the series with a solid 3-2 victory.
Dominique Martinez (Vulgrim01) was locked in offensively all afternoon from this game on, netting a hat trick in Game 2.
Eric Klages (SkiPi) backstopped the Colonials well with a number of big saves to keep the Colonials ahead. He ended with 4 saves in the game.Â
Game 3 ended with the same score, but the opposite result as Game 2. Pitt A took the game 3-2 and retook the series lead at 2-1. Both Vulgrim and SkiPi recorded a goal for RMU, and captain
Lewis Richardson (TheSweetestLew) recorded 4 saves in the game to keep the Colonials in it.Â
Game 4 was a nail biting victory for the Colonials, winning 2-1 and forcing a 5th and final deciding game. RMU was outshot 9-4 by Pitt, but a huge defensive effort from all three members led to an RMU victory. TheSweetestLew picked up 3 saves, and SkiPi also recorded 3 saves and both of the Colonials goals.Â
Game 5 was the final deciding game, but RMU couldn't pull out the victory when they needed it. Pitt A won 5-1, and were in control for much of the match. Captain Lew recorded the Colonials lone goal, and was assisted by Vulgrim.Â
Rocket League Red is now 4-4 this season in the Collegiate Star League, with their next match against RMU Rocket League White.Â
